The Idea of Emanation in The Problem of Creation

 

Abstract

Introduction. The article is devoted to the study of the paradoxical problem of the relationship between God and the world in the light of the process of creation, as it is understood by the Abrahamic tradition (Judaism, Christianity, Islam). Despite the fact that the problem is clearly not new, it is not at all obvious. Nevertheless, its relevance is based on the timeless fundamentality, ontological depth, of the idea of creation for the entire monotheistic religious and philosophical tradition.

Materials and Methods. The problem we raise has its sources in the fundamental sacred texts of the three monotheistic religions, as well as oral tradition, including esoteric. The problem of creation in the context of the paradoxical relationship between the Creator and the world has interested many theologians and philosophers over the past several thousand years. The work is based on a consistent study of some significant, in our opinion, primary sources that can shed light on the resolution of the above problem. General scientific theoretical methods were used to write the article.

Results. Thinkers of each of the three above-mentioned religious traditions tried to solve this fundamental ontological problem in different ways, however, once born in the bosom of ancient Greek philosophy, the idea of emanation appears in many works concerning this issue. This idea was the best fit as one of the main tools in solving this problem. Some philosophers openly used it in their research, others did it implicitly, as if implying, and others argued with it, recognizing, however, a certain correctness and indispensability in it.

Discussion and Conclusion. The analysis of the problems associated with this idea may well be aimed at strengthening the foundations of religious mentality and raising the level of its awareness.
