Тhe History of the Russian Orthodox Church as an Object of Historical Study at the Current Stage

 

Abstract

Introduction. The article is devoted to the problem of coverage and assessments in the domestic historiography of various aspects of the history and activities of the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) at the present stage.

Materials and Methods. This study is based on the analysis of scientific works published in recent years by various authors (monographs, articles and dissertations). The article uses general historical methods – historical-typological and problem-chronological. In the process of work, we also used the hermeneutic method, which made it possible to describe the data obtained.

Results. The study considers and analyzes recent scientific monographs, articles and dissertations, which reflect the establishment and development of the Russian Orthodox Church at different historical stages, its contribution to Russian culture and multifaceted social and educational activities in society.

Discussion and Сonclusion. The study showed that recently there is a steady interest of researchers in historical-church issues. The authors discuss various aspects of the history and activities of the ROC, which are largely facilitated by favourable factors, among which we can highlight the very constructive interaction and cooperation between church and state at various levels established in recent decades, the constant dialogue concerning many spheres of life of Russian society. Researchers, relying on the richest set of historical sources, in their works address such problems as church-state relations at various historical stages, life descriptions of prominent Russian Orthodox personalities, devotees of piety, Cultural and educational activities of the ROC, etc. both at national and regional levels.
