Moral Ideals and Value Priorities of the Technogenic Society
Abstract
Introduction. Qualitative transformations of socio-cultural reality are being actualized, forcing one to involuntarily think about the moral and value foundations of society. The universalism of Western culture and the diversity of the spectrum of “non-Western” social systems represent two opposing poles of interpretations of the axiological priorities of humanity. This formulation of the question leads to the increasing importance of the cultural vector of the development of society, which contributes to the revival of interest in national cultures with traditional values. The purpose of the study is to comprehend the value dominants of society in connection with the acute confrontation of the ideals of Western and non-Western cultures under the influence of information technologies, immersing humanity in a new sense of community.
Materials and Methods. The methodological basis of the study is the socio-cultural approach
(A. S. Akhiezer) to the study of the axiological guidelines of modern society, to the permeability of the boundaries between the mental constants of “one’s own” and “another’s” (M. M. Bakhtin,
M. Buber), the implementation of which in combination with general scientific methods: movement from the abstract to the concrete and from the concrete to the abstract, contributes to the analysis of the value priorities of humanity.
Results. It is revealed that mass culture is a conductor of alternative value orientations that are integrated into the structure of traditional cultural programs, which creates tension in society, increasing the multi-layered nature of changes. The main trends in the transformation of value-marked meanings in the modern socio-cultural reality complicated by the technogenic factor are shown. It is shown that the confrontation of Western and non-Western value orientations forms a special picture of the dynamics of society, exerting a profound influence on the cultural code of humanity. The growing vulnerability of the individual subject stimulates a surge of multi-vector directions in culture, from the acceptance of absurd pseudo-values to the desire to preserve traditional culture. The revealed duality of socio-cultural reality undermines the moral and value basis of society, really creating a threat to its existence.
Discussion and Conclusions. It is concluded that the value disunity of the subject of mass culture remains the same painful point, due to which various kinds of manipulations are carried out, replacing moral and value foundations. The implicit nature of the impact of the diversity of values in the technogenic world changes the meaning of the poles of the dual opposition “one’s own – someone else’s”, moving peripheral values to the core of culture, creating an ambiguous situation of uncertainty. On the one hand, a real danger of disorientation of the individual and society is formed, and on the other, a counter movement of strengthening the values, principles of traditional culture arises.
