The State Optical Institute during the years of Soviet Industrialization: on the scientific and organizational activities of Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences D. S. Rozhdestvensky

 

Abstract

Introduction. The article examines the role of D. S. Rozhdestvensky in the organization of Russian optical science and optical instrumentation, as well as in the formation and development of the State Optical Institute (SOI) in the context of the economic modernization of Russia in the late 19th and mid–20th centuries. The research is based on the memoirs of colleagues and historiographical reviews of followers.

Results and discussion. The study analyzes the life-changing events of D. S. Rozhdestvensky and describes the main stages of his scientific and organizational activities aimed at solving fundamental and applied problems in the field of optics and SOI.

Conclusion. The personal initiative of D. S. Rozhdestvensky formed the basis for the creation of the State Optical Institute in 1918. On the eve of the upcoming 110th anniversary of the Goyim and the 150th anniversary of the birth of D. S. Rozhdestvensky, it is important to update the iconic pages of their legendary history.
