Cooperation Between Russia and India: Cultural and Civilizational Foundations
Abstract
Introduction. Relations between Russia and India have been rapidly developing in the political and economic spheres in recent decades, however, within the framework of cultural and civilizational interaction, the two countries are still quite far from each other. In modern conditions, Russia is making a “geopolitical turn to the East”, which opens up opportunities to overcome accumulated stereotypes and search for new mechanisms of cooperation in the spirit of dialogue of cultures.
Materials and Methods. The research is based on the principles of systemic and structural-functional approaches. The final conclusions were achieved through the use of comparative historical, problem-chronological, dialectical and hermeneutic methods. Direct observation was used as an auxiliary method.
Results. The sociocultural foundations and practical directions of civilizational interaction between Russia and India are identified. The work proposes mechanisms such as the development of scientific cooperation in the field of linguistics and the study of the historical past, expanding the representation of Indian-made films in Russian cinemas, and reorienting tourist routes to introduce cultural values. The mutual opening of cultural centers of India and Russia not only in the capitals, but also in provincial cities is considered as a promising area of cooperation.
Discussion and Conclusion. At the moment, shaping the image of Russian-Indian cultural cooperation is a focused project being implemented by a large number of government bodies and civil society institutions of the two countries. Of great importance is an appeal to past experience of interaction and increased attention to the figures of historical figures symbolizing the friendship of India and Russia: Afanasy Nikitin, G. S. Lebedev, L. N. Tolstoy, Mahatma Gandhi, the Roerich family. In modern Russia, there is an interest in Eastern culture, which must be used to increase the effectiveness of Russian-Indian civilizational interaction. It is necessary to strengthen cooperation in the spiritual and religious sphere on the basis of common ideological values, but it should not violate the interests of traditional confessions.
