Psychological Features of Difficulties of Teachers of Primary General Education in the Process of Formation of Functional Literacy among Students
Abstract
Introduction. The need to study the difficulties of a primary teacher in the process of developing functional literacy among students is due to the following factors: a) the importance of high-quality implementation of the requirements of regulatory documents related to the formation of functional literacy in primary school students; b) the nature of the difficulties that younger schoolchildren experience in the process of mastering the content of primary general education.
Materials and Methods. Analysis of psychological and pedagogical research and methodological literature; content analysis of texts of educational tasks for primary school students; synthesis, analysis. To study the difficulties of teachers of primary general education in the process of developing functional literacy in students, an empirical study was conducted, the participants of which were 73 teachers of the system of primary general education of the Republic of Mordovia.
Results. A diagnosis of difficulties faced by teachers of primary general education in the process of developing functional literacy among students has been developed and carried out. The diagnostic results are presented, which indicate the presence of the following difficulties: determining the algorithm for forming the student’s actions in the process of developing all types of functional literacy; identification and use of different types of exercises/tasks to develop mathematical literacy; the use of experience and experiment as the most important methods for studying the surrounding nature and developing natural science literacy; identification of the main educational difficulties of a child of primary school age, indicating the need for targeted development of functional literacy.
Discussion and Conclusion. The diagnostic results obtained indicate the need to develop high-quality scientific and methodological support for the activities of primary school teachers in developing functional literacy among students in grades 1–4.
